| "Access and participation, on the part of both artists and viewers, is the central idea of the flat files. One of the goals is to demystify the artworld by allowing people to handle original artworks and to review a very large and eclectic group of work. The artwork included in the files represents a broad cross section of what's going on in the artworld and its undercurrent today." Joe Amrhein, Director, Pierogi 2000 The success of the various flat files projects around the country (Pierogi in Brooklyn; Flat File Gallery in Chicago) have encouraged the use of this concept as a part of Platform. Providing opportunities beyond gallery wall space is a fundamental goal of Platform for all of the reasons mentioned above: access, participation, demystification, and variety. Platforms evolving curated Flat Files will be a place where viewers can intimately explore and interact with work made by local, national, and international artists. We expect the files to generate dialogs not only between various artists work but between viewers and art. Artists: if you would like a portfolio of your work to be considered for the curated Platform Flat Files, please forward examples of your work along with work sample description and a resume to our mailing address. Send urls and email to: info@platformgallery.com. All types of media documentation (slides, video, dvd, urls, etc.) are encouraged, but please do not send original works of art. Include return postage if you want your materials returned to you. Submissions are reviewed quarterly, therefore it may take as long as 12 to 14 weeks before you should expect a reply. |
