| Rolling Stone: Sell Out 2008, graphite and gouache on panel, 54 x 44 inches |
Brooklyn's William Powhida makes work from his observations of the art world, creating "art criticism" in graphic form. Through trompe l' oeil painting and drawings on paper emulating notes, letters, enemies lists, rants, to-do lists, Powhida's fictional artistic personality goads, cajoles, critiques, insults, complains, and articulates life as a contemporary artist in a market-driven economy. William's work has been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, London, Madrid, and Ghent, Belgium. He has been in 4 group shows at Platform and has had 2 solo shows. He curated the group show Magicality in the summer of 2010 with fellow artist Eric Trosko.
