Rolling Stone: Sell Out
2008, graphite and gouache on panel,
54 x 44 inches
Brooklyn's William Powhida makes work from his observations of the art world, creating "art criticism" in graphic form. Through trompe l' oeil painting and drawings on paper emulating notes, letters, enemies lists, rants, to-do lists, Powhida's fictional artistic personality goads, cajoles, critiques, insults, complains, and articulates life as a contemporary artist in a market-driven economy.

William's work has been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, London, Madrid, and Ghent, Belgium. He has been in 3 group shows at Platform and has had 2 solo shows. He will be curating a group show in the gallery in the Summer of 2010.
